The PeroGaS project (JTC-2019-016, FLAG-ERA Joint Transnational Call (JTC) 2019) is active from March 2020 to March 2023 and unites the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT, Italy, coordinator), the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH, Greece, partner) and the Bar Ilan University (BIU, Israel, partner) with the aim to design and develop novel sensors for gaseous air pollutants which can be integrated into the Internet of Things.
The project leverages on the expertise of IIT in the synthesis and characterization of nanoscale materials, on the know-how on sensor technology by FORTH, and on renowned expertise of BIU on advanced spectroscopy tools (especially Raman spectroscopy).
PeroGaS is expected to have an impact on the European economy and society, in the rapidly developing fields of graphene-based sensors and self-powered devices, as well as in material manufacturing (growth on demand, growth directly on flexible substrates, superstructures).
Aside from the applications that constitute the main core of the project (that is, gas sensors), PeroGaS will generate know-how and technological solutions that will be useful for different applications, for example in the areas of solar cells, light emitting devices, and flexible electronics.
